TCFD stands for Task-Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures. It can be used by companies, banks, and investors to provide reliable information on exposure to climate-related risks and opportunities to stakeholders. Its goal is to contribute to greater understanding of climate risks and facilitate financing the transition to a more stable and sustainable economy. TCFD focuses specifically on climate-related aspects and does not cover any other environmental nor social and governance topics.

TCFD reporting is mandatory for some institutions in the UK, namely listed companies, banks and insurers with more than 500 employees. There are ambitions in some other countries to make TCFD reporting mandatory, such as in the United States. Currently, 1,600 companies and organizations in almost 80 countries and 6 continents – which represent nearly $16 trillion in market capitalization – endorse or have already adopted TCFD.
